Dakota came home in late fall of 2002 when the weather began getting cold. Since his arrival, he has warmed our hearts and made our lives a whirlwind of excitement and wonder. At the time we had only two children, Morgan and Daniel. Dakota easily slipped into the roll of "sibling" to them. Two years after his arrival we welcomed our third child, Sophie. Dakota and Sophie share a special bond. From the time she was old enough to be propped against Dakota for family photos, she hasn’t left his side.

Dakota is loyal and silly and oh so lovey. For him, there isn’t anything better than a scratch on the chin. He has the classic Chinook temperament of a gentle giant. Through his caramel eyes you can see into the soul of a dog who only wants to love and be loved. He still is full of puppy exuberance. He is a dog for all seasons and loves to be outside romping in the yard, hiking in the woods or leaping through the snow.

Dakota and his pal (our other Chinook) Tioga, are the goofiest pair together, whether they are chasing each other around the garden shed or cuddling together in the same dog crate!

Dakota reminds us every day how to “live life like a dog”. When the going gets tough, take a nap! Sometimes when you want people to share, you have to stare them down. Snow days are just as much fun as you remember them being when you were 8! Some days you have to throw your cares aside, get outside and roll around in the grass. Most of all, we have learned that being loved by a Chinook is just about the best thing ever!
